Trading fees comparison
Apart from trading volume, security and liquidity, one of the most important things while choosing the crypto exchange is to understand the fees that you will pay executing the trades. All cryptocurrency exchanges distinguish two types of fees: maker fee and taker fee.
In this article, we will compare the trading fees of most popular cryptocurrency exchanges, including Deribit, FTX, ByBit, BitMEX, Binance, KuCoin, OKEX, Huobi, Gate.io and HitBTC.
Maker fee
If you place the limit order and it will not be executed immediately and will stay in the order book you will add volume to the market. These orders add volume to the order book, helping to "make the market". Such contributions will be rewarded by the exchange in providing lower trading fees to market makers.
Taker Fee
On the other hand, if you will place a market order that would be immediately executed, the exchange will charge you a higher fee as you take the volume out of the market.
Apart from the type of trading fees, different crypto exchanges also vary their fees based on the trading volume of the user. This works like a loyalty program. The more you trade on the particular exchange the greater trading fee discount they will be willing to provide.
Let’s compare the top cryptocurrency exchanges based purely on their entry-level trading fees:
